Material, species and grade - You must select these from the WoodWorks database file. The default materials are Lumber stud, Lumber post, MSR Lumber, and MEL Lumber; you can add other wall stud materials, such as LVL studs, using WoodWorks Database Editor.
The specific gravity found in the species for lumber and in the grade for MEL/MSR materials affects shear design. The species is also used in hold-down capacity determination. The E value found in the grade is used for deflection design.
Stud width and depth - You can select these or enter your own value. Program automatically distinguishes between actual and nominal values similar to WoodWorks Sizer; if you wish to enter an actual size close to a nominal one, then enter e.g. 2.0001. The member dimensions are currently used only for deflection analysis and hold-down design.
No of End Studs - This can be entered at all wall ends and opening ends. Currently used for deflection analysis and hold-down design.
Stud spacing – You must select from standard list of spacings from design code tables. If your actual spacing is different, select next largest. Affects out-of-plane sheathing bending design, the choices available for shear design for structural panels, and shear design for gypsum materials. It can be left unknown.
