Redundancy Factor

For Seismic Design Categories D, E and F, for rigid diaphragm design, structures with an extreme torsional irregularity (horizontal 1b), must have a redundancy factor ρ = 1.3 (in the case of E and F, the program will also warn that the structure is not permitted, see above). In addition, condition b for allowing ρ = 1.0 for these SDC's is contingent on the structure being regular "in plan" on all levels, so for the direction under consideration, b is not satisfied if any horizontal irregularity is present.
