For seismic design, Shearwalls automatically detects torsional irregularity in the building.
An amplification factor Ax is applied according to ASCE 12.8.4.3. This value is displayed in the torsional analysis details file, and a note in under the Seismic Information table in the Design Results indicates that the factor was applied.
As per 12.8.4.3, Ax is assumed to be 1.0 when calculating the deflections at extreme shear lines to determine the final value of Ax
As per 12.8.4.2, accidental eccentricities are applied only if the building level is torsionally irregular, and for Seismic Design Category B, only if it has an extreme torsional irregularity. That is,only if Ax is greater than 1.0 for SDC C-F and greater than 1.2 for SDC B.
