When LRFD design is selected in the Design Settings, the load combinations for design are automatically generated by Sizer from:
ASCE 7 |
Section 2.3.1: Strength Design - Basic Combinations; Commentary Table 2.3-1 |
ICC IBC |
Section 1605.1: Refers to ASCE 7 2.4 and adds three exceptions |
Load Types
D = dead, L = floor live, Lr = Live roof, S = snow, W = wind, E = earthquake
I = impact (live load with time-effect actor for impact loads)
Ls = Storage Live (live load with time-effect factor for storage loads)
Sizer does not implement the load types F (fluids) or H (hydrostatic) that are given in the notes
ASCE 7-22 Combinations
The LRFD combinations for ASCE 7-22 are given below (neglecting rain loads, tornado loads or the distinction between vertical and horizontal earthquake loads, which are not currently implemented in Sizer).
Sizer incorporates the additional types Ls and I as described in Load Input, so the combinations in Sizer are
ASCE 7-16 Combinations
The combinations when ASCE-7 16 is selected in the Design Settings are:
In Sizer, the Ls and I load types are integrated in the same manner as for ASCE 7-22.
Subsets of Combinations
Sizer examines subsets of these load combinations if they could possibly govern for design. Whether they can govern for design is also affected by the time-effect factor.. The following is a list of all subsets of the load combinations generated by Sizer for LRFD design

Notes
ASCE 7 Exception 1
Sizer implements Exception 1 to ASCE 2.3.1 pertaining to the reduction to 0.5 of the live load factor used in wind and earthquake combinations 4 and 5 for certain occupancies.. This is controlled by an option in Load Input view and is described more fully in Load Options from Design Codes and Standards.
Load Combinations for Deflection
Even with LRFD selected, the load combinations used for deflection are those for ASD design.
