Design Force in Walls and Segments

When stiffness is used to distribute forces within the shear line, the program ensures that each individual shear wall segment has sufficient shear strength Vrs to resist the force applied to that segment. This is necessary because the force/resistance ratio can vary for each segment within a shear wall, in contrast to the capacity-based distribution method which distributes force based on the relative strength.  Therefore, this method adheres to O86 11.6.1 (a), that the total resistance of all shear wall segments Vr exceeds the total force on the shear wall, however it also makes sure that walls do not pass when some segments are subject to a force greater than the segment resistance Vrs.
