Strength Properties

The following design properties, in psi, for the transverse and longitudinal layers of each CLT grade described in CLT Materials are from O86 Table 8.2 and included in the WoodWorks materials database:

• Bending strength F_b
• Strength in axial compression F_c
• Strength in axial tension F_t
• Rolling shear strength F_s
• Modulus of Elasticity E

Compressive strength perpendicular to the grain F_cp is also defined in Table 8.1 as a grade property for both transverse and longitudinal members. Sizer bearing design uses F_cp from the lumber used in the longitudinal layers only, so only one value is included in the materials database.

You can modify these properties or create new CLT layups with different properties in the Grade dialog of Database Editor:

Sizer default CLT Materials are the same as those listed in APA PRG 320. Sizer uses the Shear Analogy Model to convert them to the design capacities and (F_bS)_eff, (EI)_eff , and V_s shown in PRG 320 Table A2.
