Sizer performs deflection design for two criteria: "live" load deflection and total deflection .
Total Deflection
Deflection is calculated for each load combination for the effects all loads in the combination.. You set the deflection limit to ensure that , in your judgment, the deflections do not damage attached "tructural elements or attached non-structural elements for your design.
Permanent loads in the load combination are subject to a creep factor described in NDS 3.5 - Bending Members - Deflection; you can over-ride the recommended factor via an option in Load Input view. Permanent loads are dead loads (D) and storage live loads (Ls).
Live Deflection
This check is performed to limit damage to non-structural elements due to the deflection that occurs in addition to permanent deflection. Default deflection limits are given for each member type, and you can change these according to the application, for example if a fragile covering is to be applied to the structure.
The program includes the effects of L = live (use, occupancy), Ls = live (storage, equipment), I (live, impact), S = snow, and W = loads in the "live" deflection calculations.
