The user has a choice of the following configurations or offsets at the end of the main member and side member for orthogonal and skewed connections:
Inset: The end of the member does not reach the far side of the other member by this amount.
Overhang: The end of the member protrudes past the far side of the other member by this amount.
Extended: This offset creates a member with an effectively infinite overhang for a connection in the middle of the member
Unknown: The program determines the minimum required overhang. It will not inset a member.
Some combinations of offset types are disallowed in the orthogonal and skewed connections. These include
overhangs on steel side members
extended offsets on steel side members along with overhangs on the main member
insets for both side and main members in the same connection (both steel and wood).
An overlap is defined instead of an offset for splice connections. It can be unknown.
