Loads are applied to the orthogonal connection in two components, along the main member, and along the side member. These are to be interpreted as components of external loads applied to one of the members.
Loads are applied to the skewed and spliced connections along the side member(s).
A positive load signifies a connection in tension, and a negative load signifies a connection in compression.
Ledger connections have the option of either applying a load along the wooden member, or perpendicular to the wooden member, but not both.
In Ledger connections loads are applied in plf or kN/m as opposed to the pound or kilonewton force that is used for all other connections.
