Lapped Shear Design

Lapped shear connections are designed for perpendicular-to-grain and parallel-to-grain grain lateral capacity, tension capacity (net area). The bolted lapped shear connections are also designed for row tear-out and group tear-out capacities. Effective depth calculations are not performed for the perpendicular-to-grain component of these connections.

Connection rows are always aligned with the load. If there are loads in both directions in the orthogonal connection, then rows are aligned with the main member.

Steel design is not performed for lapped shear connections and nailed connections. The engineer is responsible for the steel design in these connections.

If no suitable connection is found, the program reports that there is a failed connection and it outputs the results for the strongest connection found.

Small eccentricities caused by load offsets will not affect the connection capacity.
