For flexible diaphragms, shear wall forces from the level above are transferred directly to the level below at the same location.
If there are shear walls on all levels for a particular shear line, the accumulated shear force in that line is just the sum of the shear forces computed for the level and for all levels above it on the same line.
Discontinuous Shear Lines
If there is a level with no shear walls with any full height sheathing segments on the shear line, then the shear line force from the level above is converted to a point force acting on the diaphragm between the levels. It is then distributed to adjacent shear walls on the level below using the method described in Flexible Diaphragm Analysis. If shear walls reappear on the same shear line on a level further down, they may not receive all of the force from the shear walls two floors above them.
User Applied Shear Line Forces
Shear line forces that you apply yourself in Load Input View, for example to model the affect of adjoining structures, are transferred to the level below along with forces derived from flexible diaphragm loads analysis.
