For rigid diaphragm analysis, the program treats shear line forces on the level above the one being analyzed as if they were loads on the rigid diaphragm on the level below, and includes them in the torsional analysis on that level. Therefore the shear forces from above are not transferred directly to the shear lines below, and some of the force may go into stiffer elements elsewhere on the level below. Diaphragms must be designed for the transfer forces due to variations in shear wall stiffness.
Shear line forces and torsions due to those forces must be transferred from the levels above those below such that the result is statically balanced and the shear line forces on the level below equal the total design force on the level, even when accidental eccentricities are applied.
