System Restrictions

4.1.8.7 Methods of Analysis restricts the use of the Equivalent Static Procedure that is used by Shearwalls, and 4.1.8.10 Additional System Restrictions lists restrictions that apply to all methods of analysis.

All regular structures modeled by Shearwalls conform to 4.1.8.7(b) ( h < 60m and Ta < 2 s), so 4.1.8.7 is relevant only to structures with irregularities listed in 4.1.8.7(c) for which IEFsSa(0.2) > 0.35, as per 4.1.8.7(a).

With one exception, each Sentence of 4.1.8.10 is also dependent on an irregularities.

For this reason, 4.1.8.7 and 4.1.8.10 are handled via Irregularity Analysis, and if a structure is disallowed for one of the reasons, it is shown in the Irregularity Table in Design Results. It is also given in the Design Summary.

The exception to is 4.1.8.10.(2) which requires that post-disaster buildings

Shearwalls checks the first of these requirements upon generating loads and aborts generation if it is violated. Shearwalls does not currently implement the latter requirement.

Only 4.1.8.10.(1),(2) and (4) apply to Shearwalls. (3) does not apply to wood structures and (5)-(8) pertain to the Type 9 Irregularity that is not relevant to the Shearwalls model.
