Wind Load Standard

Main wind force resisting system (MWFRS) loads in Shearwalls are from ASCE 7 Directional or All heights Procedure and the Envelope or Low-rise Procedure.

The simplified ASCE 7 procedures for have not been implemented, as they apply to a restricted range of buildings and/or create conservative loading compared to the methods used by Shearwalls.

Limitations

ASCE 27.1.2 (Directional method) and 28.1.2 (Envelope method) require that buildings to be regular shaped as defined in 26.2 as having no unusual geometric irregularity, and that they are not subject to the effects of across-wind loading, galloping, flutter, channeling effects, or buffeting. It is the responsibility of the designer to ensure that these conditions do not exist before using Shearwalls to model wind loads on a structure.
