Lumber Siding

The following changes are based on Table 4.3D for lumber siding materials (formerly lumber sheathing).

  1. Galvanized Box Nails

The table includes box nails for Lumber siding, but the only choice that was available in the program is common wire nails. Galv. box nails will be added as a choice for Lumber sheathing in the Wall Input view fastener Type input

The Size selections are 8d and 10d. 12d nails are not included as there are no out-of-plane wind load values available for them. .

  2. Edge and Field Spacing

Table 4.3D gives the number of nails required for each piece of siding, depending on whether it is more or less than 6" and whether it is fastened with box nails or common nails.

This was never implemented in the software, instead this material was shoehorned into Edge and field spacing for panel-based materials, leading to nonsensical inputs of 2" to 7" for both edge and field spacing. The system has been changed as follows:

    1. Input

When Lumber sheathing is selected the text Edge spacing and Field spacing will change to No. of edge nails and No. of field nails

In the drop-down, there is list of 2 numbers as given in the table below. If the Edge is changed, the corresponding Field value automatically changes, and vice-versa. For example if common nails are selected and Edge is changed from 3 to 4, Field changes from 2 to 3. For box nails, if Field is change from 4 to 3, Edge changes from 6 to 5

    2. Output

In the Sheathing materials table, for Lumber sheathing , the Eg and Fd columns show the number of nails rather than the spacing, There is an explanatory comment in the table legend.
