The choice of any one of the hold-down configuration options in the Type/Hold-down input rather than Non-shearwall or Proprietary/non-wood indicates you are using a wood shear wall that is constructed as specified in sections 11.3 and 11.4 of CSA O86. The choices in the Wall Input view reflect these materials and limitations, and notes appear in the Sheathing and Framing materials output tables giving requirements beyond those implicit in the material choices.
For these walls, hold-downs or anchorages are required at the ends of all full-height segments, and segments containing openings are neglected when distributing shear forces, so that these segments do not contribute to the shear wall resistance. Segments that are too narrow according to O86 11.4.1.2 also do not draw force or contribute to shear wall resistance.
These walls appear solid in Plan View, however narrow segments within them are shown as as hollow. In Elevation view, non-shear resisting portions above and below openings and narrow segments are shown in gray.
