Vhd Calculation and Combining 2-Sided Sheathing

The calculation of V_hd, which is just the shear wall resistance V_rs without the J_hd factor, for use in determining the J_hd factor considers both the lateral nail resistance and the panel buckling equations, despite the fact that J_hd appears only in the nail resistance equation. This was decided after consultation with the design standard authorities. The procedure for combining sides is thus:

• Determine worst case V_hd (nailing) vs. V_rs (panel buckling) on each side
• Combine the sides for the V_hd used to calculate J_hd
• Take V_rs (nailing) = V_hd * J_hd on each side
• Take worst case V_rs (nailing) vs. V_rs (panel buckling) on each side with wood structural panels
• Combine the sides again
