The program outputs detailed intermediate calculations leading to the calculation of the shear resistance Vrs from O86 11.6.2.2 for wood structural panels and 11.6.2.3 for gypsum wallboard (GWB). (Note that if you have selected the O86-09 option in the Design settings, this output does not appear.)
This output is accessed from the Detailed Shear Walls design tool bar button and shows the following data.
A table of all symbols used, showing
Symbol
Definition of symbol
Units used in O86 when defining or using the value
Units for value used in Shearwalls for the current unit system selection in the Format Settings
Reference in O86 to where it is defined or calculated
A list of the equations for Vrs and all intermediate equations and expressions and their references in O86
The values of factors and parameters applicable to all shearwalls:
Safety factor j for both wood and GWB
Load duration factor KD
Diaphragm construction factor for nail resistance JD
Treatment factors for panel bending KTp and for nailing in stud KTn
Service condition factor for nailing KSF and for panel bending KS
Number of shear planes for nail calculations ns = 1
yield modes a,b, d, e, f and g for unfactored nail strength nu with an asterisk on the critical mode
a note if the critical mode is a non-ductile mode
For gypsum wallboard, panel bending calculations are not done and the values of vd,Vhd and Vrs derived from 11.6.2.3 appear where nailing data appear for wood structural panels. The other data are zero or blank.
Tables showing the determination of Vhd and the critical Vrs for each side, as described in Vhd Calculation and Combining 2-Sided Sheathing. There is one table each combination of flexible and rigid diaphragms and wind and seismic design. For each wall segment, they show
the Vhd/L on each surface derived from lowest of the panel buckling Vrs/L or nailing Vhd/L
