These settings pertain to the formatting of text both on-screen and in printed output. Only the unit system in use is saved to the project file. The rest of the formatting options do not change when opening existing projects.
Unit system
Metric units - metres, millimetres, and kilonewtons
The only choice for this version of the program is Imperial (English) units - feet, inches, pounds, kips
Imperial distance formatting
There are three options for formatting long distances such as shear wall lengths – decimal feet (e.g. 3.375'); feet and decimal inches (e.g. 3' 4.5"); feet and fractional inches (e.g. 3' 4-1/2").
There are two options for formatting small distances such as sheathing thickness – Decimal inches (e.g. 0.75"); and Fractional inches (e.g. ¾").
Note that these options indicate the style of the formatting, not the number of digits shown, which varies according to the data displayed.
Imperial force formatting
Point forces and loads (but not UDLs or area loads) can be displayed either as kips or lbs.
Font sizes
The size of the font can be specified in four separate areas of the program: for printed results; for screen display; for text design results, and for text that appears in diagrams.
Use landscape mode for fonts greater than 10
This cause printed output to appear printed across the length of the page rather than the width of the page if a results font greater than 10 is selected. If this is not selected, for larger fonts the output will wrap in portrait mode, making it difficult to read.
Other than Unit system, the formatting options chosen are not saved with each Shearwalls project file. If you change them and activate Save as default for new files they will apply to any project you work on.
