Plan and Elevation View Settings

These settings are used to re-scale and resize your drawing in Plan view or Elevation view, and to control mouse input. All design settings are saved to the project files, so that the project settings will replace those currently in use when a file is opened.

Limits of Viewing Area

These fields specify the real-world extents of the part of the Plan view and Elevation view that is visible on your screen when the program is maximized. It is useful to set the X-min and Y-min settings to a negative value, to create margins when the bottom left corner of your building is at (0,0), and the X-max and Y-max values a similar amount greater than the extent of your building.

Once established, the viewing area can be altered more rapidly by using the zoom buttons in the Plan view and Elevation view tool bars.

There is a settings tab for each of Plan view and Elevation view.

Fit view area to window

If this item is checked, the view area limits are at the top, bottom, left and right of the Plan view or Elevation view window, and as the window is resized, the building will be re-scaled. If unchecked, the view extents will apply to the window when both it and the program are maximized, and the building will not be re-scaled when the window is resized.

Note that this setting can be accessed quickly through the View button or the right-mouse click context menu.

Fit building to view area

If this item is checked in the View menu, the view extents are overridden by fitting the actual extents of the building (plus a reasonable margin) into the Plan View or Elevation view window.

Note that this setting can be accessed quickly through the View button or the right-mouse click context menu.

Mouse clicks recorded at ... snap increment

All mouse input is rounded to discrete intervals before creating building elements. Before a project is created, the snap increment should be set to the finest value in the building plan (remember to check Save As Default)

After a project is started, you are not allowed to change the snap increment to a larger value, and smaller values must be an even multiple of the original snap increment. This ensures that existing building elements remain on one of the new snap increments.

This value is set in Plan view, and is displayed but disabled in Elevation view in order to provide a metric for Display gridlines, described below.

Display gridlines

This is used to specify a grid that can be displayed to show where building elements are located. The checkbox indicates whether gridlines are to be displayed at all; if checked, you enter the interval in snap increments at which gridlines are to be displayed. For example, if your snap increment is 6" and gridlines are displayed every 8 increments, there will be a gridline at every 4 feet in each direction.

If the snap increment is changed after walls have been created, this number will automatically change to maintain the same distance between gridlines.

Zoom out increases view...

Use this to calibrate how much each click of the Zoom in and Zoom out buttons in the Plan view and Elevation view toolbars expand or contract the view. For example if the view extend is 60 feet, and 25% is set, the view extent will increase to 75 feet when the Zoom out is clicked.
