Glulam Fire Design Method
For glulam design you have a choice between CSA O86 Annex B and NBC Appendix D, 2.11.2 for fire design of glulam beams and columns. O86 Annex B is a newer mechanics-based procedure, whereas the NBC approach is an older, empirical method. You select your preference via a Design Setting.
One of these methods must be used if the member is required to have a higher fire resistance rating than the 45 minute rating given in NBC 3.1.4.6 for heavy timber construction that permits the use of prescriptive heavy timber provisions in 3.1.4.7.
