Building Mass Generation

The program automatically creates building masses with user-specified self-weights for all the building elements that you have entered, and for the floor and roof areas inferred by the layout of the building.

Building masses are generated by for walls, floors, ceilings and flat roofs, and sloped roofs or the projected area in the horizontal plane of roofs. The program automatically divides irregularly shaped floor areas into rectangular elements for the purpose of generating loads.

Line load building masses are generated by multiplying the user-input self-weight of the element by the appropriate dimension of the surface of the element. The other dimension of the building element becomes the location and extent of the line load.

It is possible to generate building masses, then modify those masses in Load Input view to create a more accurate building model, then return to Load Generation view and regenerate seismic loads. In that case, you should check the box Generate seismic loads only, not building masses. This will prevent building masses being regenerated and wiping out your modifications. Refer to Load Generation Process for more information.
