Material and Component Databases

WoodWorks® stores files in the Application Data section of the computer containing building materials and components that you can modify in order to add new ones, change design properties or customize to include only the ones you ordinarily use.

Wood Materials:

WoodWorks® includes a database of lumber, MSR lumber, MEL lumber, timber, glulam, structural composite lumber (SCL), I-joist and cross laminated timber (CLT) materials.

You can also create new "custom" database files from scratch and edit them using WoodWorks® Database Editor.

These files are in a binary format created by WoodWorks, with extensions .cwb, .cwc, .cwj, .cww, and .cws for beams, columns, joists, walls, and CLT panels, respectively.

Of these, only wall studs are used by the Shearwalls program. Only Lumber stud, Lumber post, MSR lumber, and MEL lumber database files are included by default, but it is possible to create your own SCL or glulam wall stud database files. Shearwalls does not design cross laminated timber wall systems.

All WoodWorks programs use the database files stored in the Application Data, so any changes you make to a material database file with the Database Editor are reflected in all WoodWorks® applications.

The material properties for "standard" database files supplied with WoodWorks® cannot be changed; however, you can activate and deactivate materials, species, grades, and sections.

Standard Walls:

Shearwalls allows you to create standard wall assemblies that you can than use for any of your projects. These are stored in a binary file with a format created by the program.

Hold-down Connections:

WoodWorks® includes a database of Simpson hold-down devices used by the Shearwalls program. You can change this database using an editor in Shearwalls, and either modify the Simpson hold-down properties, or add hold-downs from other manufacturers. The Access database file can also be edited directly.

The Simpson hold-down data provided with Shearwalls is from the C-C-Can-2022 Wood Construction Connectors Catalog.
