For seismic design, Shearwalls automatically detects torsional irregularity in the building according to NBC Table 4.1.8.6 and NBC 4.1.8.11.(10) by calculating the maximum of the deflections at the extreme shear lines, and the average of these deflections, for both cases of + and - accidental eccentricity, and determining the ratio Bx on each level between them. The building is determined to be torsionally irregular if the greatest of the Bx values is greater than 1.7, as per Table 4.1.8.6.
The significance of this in terms of design procedures allowed and other design provisions affected are shown in the Irregularity Table in Design Results.
A table showing the extreme deflections, average deflection, and Bx value on each level of the structure for each direction is shown in the Detailed Torsional Analysis Output.
