Shear Wall Design

The shear wall design equations for wood structural panels based on the worst case of lateral nail resistance and panel bending are found in O86 11.6.2.2, with modification factors in 11.5, including the hold-down effect factor Jhd in 11.5.5. In addition, the following CSA O86 design tables and procedures have been incorporated:

Tables 9.1-9.3 - Strength, Stiffness and Rigidity Properties for Plywood and OSB

Table 11.4 - Shear Strength for Gypsum Wallboard Shear Walls

Table 11.6 - Maximum Percentage of Total Shear Forces Resisted by Gypsum Wallboard in a Storey

Table A.9 - Panel Marking for Construction Sheathing Products

O86 12.9.4.2 is used for withdrawal resistance Prw for C&C design, and the shear design equations in 11.6.2.2 make use of lateral nail strengths determined by 12.9.3.
